Pediatric IBD Registry
Practice standards for the treatment of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in children have largely evolved from extrapolation from research data from adult patients. What little data there were on natural history and response to therapy in children had come from single center experiences with a limited number of patients.
Recognizing the need for more accurate data on the effects of IBD in children, the multicenter Pediatric IBD Registry was initiated in January 2002 as a collaborative research venture among 21 pediatric gastroenterology centers located across the U.S. and Canada and has been jointly directed by Dr. James Markowitz of Cohen Children's Hospital, North Shore LIJ Medical System, New Hyde Park, New York, Dr. Jeffrey Hyams of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Hartford, Connecticut, and Dr. Anne Griffiths of the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.
At present, more than 500 children with newly diagnosed IBD have enrolled in the study.
ROFY gave the seed money for North Shore LIJ's Schneider, now Cohen Children's Medical Center's participation and is proud to be a sponsor of this endeavor.
Donation to Stony Brook Children's Hospital
In 2011 ROFY made a substantial donation to Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital's Division of Pediatric Gastronenterology and Nutrition to enable the hospital to join the national Pediatric IBD Registry.
